About Dr. Sharma
Dr. Samir Sharma is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine physician. He currently practices at South Bay Orthopedic and Sports Medicine with his wife, Dr. Kavita Sharma, and a talented team of medical professionals in Campbell, California.
After being raised in Michigan, Dr. Sharma moved to Miami where he was accepted to the honors accelerated medical program at the University of Miami, Florida. He moved back to Michigan to attend the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, where he graduated with a top of the class distinction. During his orthopedic surgery residency there, he worked under Dr. Robert Teitge, a team physician for the Detroit Pistons.
Dr. Sharma completed a sports medicine externship at the University of Pittsburgh under Christopher Harner and Freddie Fu, before finishing his residency at the Detroit Medical Center. He concluded a fellowship at Tahoe Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Carson City, Nevada, working alongside team physicians for the US Ski and Snowboarding team.
Active in his field, Dr. Sharma is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the California Orthopedic Association, the California Medical Association, and the Santa Clara County Medical Association.
In 2014 and 2015, Dr. Sharma was also the head team physician for the San Jose Sabercats — several of the skilled players he operated on led the team to the 2015 Arena Bowl Championship. Dr. Sharma has also been affiliated with Valley Christian High School in San Jose, California, since 2009.
Dr. Sharma is the proud father of two and enjoys spending time with his family when he isn’t assisting patients. He encourages and supports patients in pursuing good health, healing, and recovery through maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle in all phases of their lives.

If South Bay Orthopedic and Sports Medicine IS NOT contracted with your health plan:
-If you have a PPO/HMO Managed Care plan with which Dr. Sharma is not contracted, you may still see Dr. Sharma by using your “out of network” benefits.
-You will be asked to pay for office visits and telephone services at the time they are provided.
-Whenever possible, we will bill your insurance directly for surgical procedures.
-You will receive a statement at the time of your visit that includes all the information needed for you to bill your insurance company. This statement should be attached to your completed insurance form and forwarded to the address your company provides.
-Your insurance will reimburse you for your visit at the out-of-network rate.

If South Bay Orthopedic and Sports Medicine IS contracted with your health plan:
-If you are a member of a PPO/HMO Managed Care plan with which Dr. Sharma has a contract, your insurance ID card must be presented at every visit.
-If you are unsure of the specific coverage guidelines and requirements pertaining to their individual plan, please verify your coverage prior to your appointment.
